MNLF ‘member’ arrested in Lapu-Lapu
POLICE REGIONAL OFFICE (PRO) 7 Director Debold Sinas assured the public that there is nothing to worry about with the arrest of an alleged Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) member in Lapu-Lapu City last Wednesday.
He said there is no imminent threat in Central Visayas and there is no reported presence of terrorists in the region.
A team from the Regional Intelligence Division-Regional Special Operations Group (RID-RSOG) arrested Rajah Ahamad L. Tano, MNLF-Eastern Visayas chairman, in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, where the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) informal meetings are held this week.
Sinas said the Asean meetings are secured. Police will escort the more than 60 delegates if they go on tour in the city or other tourist spots in Cebu, said Sinas.
The police official said the intelligence units of PRO 7 and other government agencies are monitoring the region.
The RID-RSOG implemented the warrant of arrest issued by Ormoc City Municipal Trial Court in Cities for a violation of the forestry law against Tano. The offense is bailable.
Sinas said Tano was brought back to Ormoc City yesterday morning to face the court. (KAL)
