‘EJKs’ in Cebu might scare away investors: Davide
GOV. Hilario Davide III is worried that investors might think twice about setting up shop here if the rumors that policemen are involved in the spate of unsolved killings are proven true.
Davide told reporters he will not make any conclusions until there is already a result of the investigations concerning the unsolved murders, particularly those of two operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7.
But he admitted that the reports circulating that policemen masterminded the murders, particularly that of PDEA 7 agent Von Rian Tecson, alarmed him.
“If found to be true, magduda gyud ta (we’d wonder). Nganung pulis man ang nagbira sa (Why would the police strike at) PDEA? It could be that both agencies want to grab credit for operations against illegal drug dealers,” Davide said.
The governor, who chairs the Regional Peace and Order Council, urged independent law enforcement agencies to create a special team to investigate the killings.
He also encouraged people who witnessed the killings to come forward and provide information on what they know.
Meanwhile, Chief Supt. Debold Sinas, Police Regional Office 7 director, said that Cebu City continues to be safe.
He said they are doing their best to investigate and solve the shooting incidents racking up in Cebu.
“We are adding more police on the streets. The mobile force will also be tapped to assist the local police,” he said.
