Sapangdaku tanods persuade mayor to restore anti-crime allowances

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has restored the monthly allowance of tanods in Barangay Sapangdaku starting this month. SIXTY-EIGHT small vessels with gross tonnage below 250 cancelled their trips on Friday, October 20, after the weather bureau issued a gale warning over the seaboard of Visayas due to Typhoon Paolo. Waves, according to weather bureau Pagasa, could reach up to 4.5 meters high. That affected most of the fast crafts bound for Tagbilaran, Tubigon and Getafe in Bohol; Ormoc, Leyte; Dumaguete City and Sibulan in Negros Oriental; Larena, Siquijor; and Camotes Island. Umapad dumpsite ‘closed for good’

MANDAUE City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing ordered the permanent closure of the controlled dumpsite in Barangay Umapad. Last Oct. 12, he issued Executive Order (EO) 37 that also institutionalized synchronized waste collection and disposal system in compliance with Republic Act (RA) 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. The City closed the open dumpsite in 2009. In April 2015, the City inaugurated a one-hectare sanitary landfill, where the City could dump its residual waste. Source: Local News

Cardinal Vidal remains off to saint’s shrine

THE remains of the late Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal will be transferred to the St. Pedro Calungsod Shrine today. The move coincides with the fifth anniversary of the canonization of St. Pedro Calungsod. Margie Matheu of the Archdiocesan Parish Pastoral Board told reporters that a motorcade carrying Vidal’s body will leave the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral at 7 a.m. From the cathedral, the motorcade will head to the shrine on D.
