Editorial: Bigger fish

THE Philippine National Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seem to be training their sights higher up the ladder of the illegal drug trade.

Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr., who died in Sunday’s pre-dawn raids in Ozamiz City, is the third mayor in nine months to fall as a result of President Rodrigo Duterte’s all-out offensive against drugs. Whether Parojinog was guilty or not, we may never find out. The same goes for Datu Saudi Ampatuan Mayor Samsudin Dimaukom and Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.
Source: Local News

Carvajal: No easy answers

MINUTES into my tactical interrogation, Martial Law lackeys made it clear I was accused of being a member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA). I found this ironic because I never got an invitation to join them. Sison to return to the Philippines and end his exile in the Netherlands. The President contrasted Sison’s lifestyle in Europe with those of the communist rebels in the country’s hinterlands and said Sison must personally lead the struggle here. Sison has been in exile since 1987.
Source: Local News

Barrita: Raid on Parojinogs, Espinosa Part 2?

MEDIA reports dub the Sunday dawn raid that killed Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and 13 others as “Mayor Espinosa Part 2,” akin to the Nov. 5, 2016 raid in a Baybay City subprovincial jail that killed Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.

Among the similarities pointed out was the admission by Ozamis City’s controversial police chief that they deliberately cut off closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras prior to the raid.

If this is Mayor Espinosa Part 2, could Part 3 not be far behind?

•••
Source: Local News

Tell it to SunStar: No illusion of peace

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has unilaterally declared the cessation of the peace negotiations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP). The flimsy reason he gave is the series of tactical offensives launched by the New People’s Army (NPA) in the countryside.
Source: Local News
